Violate Glenna Lauritzen

Violate Glenna Myers Lauritzen, 93, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She was born June 27, 1931, in Boise, Idaho to Lucile Sabin and Marcus Lemuel Myers. She was the 3rd of 7 children including Marcus (Mark) Norville, Iliene Lucile, Leon Aaron, La Varna, Neva Rae, and Jeanne. 

Violate grew up in Boise, Idaho where she attended a 2-room country school until junior high. After high school graduation, she majored in elementary education at Brigham Young University, where she met Louis Lauritzen. After graduation, she taught 2nd grade for one year. Lou and Violate married in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 9, 1954. Shauna and Dee were born in Provo, Utah and after Lou graduated, the family moved to southern California, where Mark, Sallie, Keith, and James were born, completing their family. 

Violate was always active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings, including Primary teacher, Primary president, YW teacher, 1st counselor in YW, and Blazer Scout Leader. She particularly loved scouting. 

Lou and Violate relocated to Plano, Texas in May of 1973 with the youngest 4 children. She served for many years as an ordinance worker in the Dallas Texas Temple. Violate and Lou moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 2017 to be near family.

She was an especially accomplished landscape artist, focusing on oils. She loved African violets and always had many growing near windows. 

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the many kind acts of service and tender care from staff at Brookdale Clare Bridge over the last several years. 

Violate is survived by her six children: Shauna (Charles) Berg of Phoenix, Arizona, Louis Dee (Chyleen) Lauritzen of Orem, Utah, Mark Thorvald (Emily) of Surprise, Arizona, Sallie (Chris) Smith of Houghton Lake, Michigan, Keith David (Devonna) Lauritzen of Hokkaido, Japan, and James Allan (Shannon) Lauritzen of Charlottesville, Virginia; 17 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; her brother Leon (Eva Jeanne) Myers, and 3 sisters, La Varna (Lavonte) Hochstrasser, Neva Rae (Allan) Maughan, and Jeanne Snyder.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Lauritzen, her parents, Marcus and Lucile Myers, her brother Marcus Norville Myers, and her sister Iliene Fisher. 

A private memorial service will be held on Nov. 1, 2024.
