Scott D. Staley

Scott Staley, our beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Sunday, July 7th, 2024.

Scott was born in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 1961, as the fourth of five children to Kellen and Patricia Staley. His sisters did NOT want another brother but he soon won them over with his wit and charm. Scott attended elementary school in Jackson Hole and made friends easily. He had an exciting childhood enjoying all the winter sports Jackson had to offer and learned to ski at a young age. He won the family record for youngest child to break a bone skiing when he broke his leg on the bunny tow at the age of four. While still in his youth, his family moved to Queensland, Australia in 1970 and made their home in Noosa Heads. Scott developed a love of surfing and motorcycles, also played rugby while there. He enjoyed the tropical lifestyle of no shoes, no shirt, no problem.

Scott’s family returned to the United States and settled in the San Diego area, where Scott graduated from San Marcos High School. He later attended the Phoenix Institute of Technology and began his career in construction. Starting as a draftsman in 1980 for Lusardi Construction, Scott worked his way through various rolls in drafting (and coloring within the lines), managing, and leading the construction of many commercial buildings still in use today.

The last stop in his career was with TFW Construction as a Project Manager. Scott was hard-working, reliable, and had a relentless ambition for success in his 40 years of construction business experience. All of that for his daughter to say he colored for a living.

Scott met and married his wife and became a father to Justin and soon welcomed a baby girl, Paige. He always shared his growing interests with his kids. He became an avid golfer, which was perfect for his sarcastic sense of humor. He enjoyed the game so much so that Justin wanted to be just like him and practiced hitting his ProV1’s into the field across the street. Surely, he remained calm after that incident. Golf was his only hobby that didn’t require speed. He always had a love for airplanes and if they weren’t at the Miramar Air Show, they were having just as much fun watching the planes land at the San Diego Airport. At home, he became a Southern

California cowboy. Riding his favorite horse, Sage, through the hills of Escondido and winning a buckle at a local rodeo.

Scott had a zeal for life. As his list of hobbies grew, he bought his Harley Davidson Dyna-glide motorcycle and road throughout the southwest. But in staying true to who he was, he kept traveled to beaches around the world to surf the perfect wave. Whatever the activity was, he enjoyed them most when he was with his kids and friends in the blissful San Diego weather.

Scott brought joy to the lives of others with his great personality and wit. Throughout his life, he developed quite a knack for telling stories and making people laugh.

Scott was generous and forgetful. He was dedicated, honest, and brave. He was stubborn, sarcastic and loyal. He was so adventurous if his family and friends gave him a nudge, otherwise he enjoyed a simple life with sandals on. He loved his family dearly, and especially his daughter, Paige, son, Justin, son-in-law, Curtis, and his new grandson, Theodore. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Kellen Staley; step-father, Charles Rose; sister, Cheryl Staley; and brother, Shane Staley.

Scott is survived by his mother, Patricia; his two sisters, Janet (Ed) Neel, and JaNell (John) Moody; his daughter, Paige (Curtis) Meyer and grandson, Theodore; his son, Justin Hall; as well as four nieces and nephews and their families, Shaun, Tara, Lorin, and Shane.

An informal Celebration of Life reception will be held in Carlsbad September 21, 2024 as a “final beer with Scott”. For details, please email RememberingStaley@gmail.com. Official memorial will take place in Buhl, Idaho July of 2025.

The family would like to thank all who have offered support and condolences.
