Obituary

Ruby "Catt" Jarrett (Griffin), a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was 62 years old.

Ruby was born on September 3, 1963, in San Diego, California, to Annie Lee Griffin and Wilbert Leon Griffin. She grew up surrounded by her loving family and carried the values of hard work, independence, and faith throughout her life.

Ruby dedicated 26 years of her professional life to the childcare industry. She began her career by opening her own home-based childcare business, Smiles R US, which she ran until her daughter started grade school. Her passion for nurturing young minds led her to expand her career as a Senior Director of multiple childcare centers across California, Texas, and Oklahoma. Ruby’s commitment to excellence and leadership left a lasting impact on countless families and colleagues. After retiring from the childcare field, she moved to Arizona to be closer to her daughter and began working part-time at ReMax. Her dedication and work ethic earned her a promotion to office manager during her time there.

Ruby was a woman of elegance and strength who carried herself with poise and grace. She loved being independent and worked tirelessly throughout her life. Despite facing significant health challenges in recent years due to rheumatoid arthritis and interstitial lung disease, Ruby remained resilient and determined. In July 2024, she underwent a medical procedure that triggered severe complications with her lungs. After months of hospitalizations and being placed on continuous supplemental oxygen, Ruby was informed that a double lung transplant was her best hope for recovery. In an incredible turn of events, she received a donor match quickly and underwent the transplant surgery. However, the procedure proved more challenging than anticipated. Ruby faced numerous setbacks during her recovery but fought valiantly with unwavering determination. Ultimately, she made the courageous decision to prioritize peace over prolonged suffering.

Ruby’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. A devoted Christian who believed in Jesus Christ as her savior, she found strength in her relationship with God through every trial she faced.

In addition to her professional accomplishments and enduring faith, Ruby found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved watching drama series and staying informed about world events through CNN. Shopping trips, getting her hair and nails done, dining out at restaurants, attending concerts, and spending quality time with loved ones brought her immense happiness.

Ruby is survived by her beloved daughter Alexandria Monet Galloway (Jarrett) and son-in-law Dante Galloway; step-daughter Dawn Marie Yancy (Jarrett), cherished grandchildren Ava Marie Galloway and Dante Galloway Jr.; dear brothers J.R Griffin and Alonzo Griffin; as well as a host of nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents Annie Lee Griffin (Boykin) and Wilbert Leon Griffin; brothers Bobby Eugene Curry, Claude Bruce Curry, and Ronnie Butler, and ex-husband Phillip Jarrett.

Ruby’s legacy is one of strength, resilience, love for family, and an unshakable faith in God. Her laughter, warmth, and determination will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

May Ruby's memory bring comfort to those who loved her as they celebrate the remarkable life she lived.
