Nancy Jane Vander Baaren

It is with great sadness that the family of Nancy Jane Vander Baaren (Skeldon) announces her passing at home in Carlsbad, California, on November 23, 2024. Born on July 11, 1948, in Saint John, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late George and Roberta (Poore) Skeldon.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her beloved husband and soulmate of 53 years, Klaas D. Vander Baaren. She is also survived by her sisters, Suzanne Kimball and Angela Ross, as well as her cherished nieces and nephews. Nancy is predeceased by her sister Karen Smith.

After completing her studies at Acadia University, Nancy began her professional journey in Montreal in 1971. In 1979, she and Klaas moved to Toronto, where she embarked on a distinguished 36-year career with The Wyatt Company, now part of Willis Towers Watson (WTW), specializing in pension administration. Her career took her to Washington, D.C., in 1992 and later to San Diego in 1997. Nancy retired in May 2020 and often reflected fondly on the company and the many colleagues she worked alongside.

Nancy had a passion for quilting during her time in Montreal and Toronto, becoming a master quilter whose creations were treasured by friends. After moving to the United States, she and Klaas embraced their love of travel, visiting approximately 50 countries together. In Carlsbad, Nancy found joy in her garden, dedicating countless hours to planning and nurturing its beauty.

In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Her ashes will be interred in Saint John, New Brunswick. Donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to your local Food Bank. Online condolences may be shared at www.accucarecremation.com.

Nancy’s warmth and vibrant spirit will be remembered by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she touched.
