In Loving Memory

Joseph Michael Lesko

February 29, 1960 – August 12, 2025

Joseph Michael Lesko, 65, passed away peacefully at his home in San Diego, California, on August 12, 2025. Born on February 29, 1960, in Leonardtown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Joseph John Lesko and Betty Jo Lesko.

Joe’s early years were shaped by his father’s career, which took the family from Leonardtown to Lancaster, California. There, he graduated from Paraclete High School in 1978 and went on to attend the University of Notre Dame—a place that would forever hold his heart.

A proud alumnus of both Notre Dame and University of San Diego Law School, Joe cultivated a life defined by intellect, integrity, and purpose. As founder of Black Castle Strategies, he built a respected corporate law practice known for its strategic insight. His clients valued not only his legal expertise but the way he approached every challenge.

He found deep joy in the camaraderie of his fellow Notre Dame alumni, especially during football season, when rallying behind the Fighting Irish became a beloved tradition. The beauty of San Diego held a special place in his heart—the golden sunshine, the gentle ocean breeze, and carefree days at the beach with the girls when they were growing up. Building sandcastles, chasing waves, and sharing laughter under the sun became treasured moments of connection and joy.

He will be remembered for being a genuinely good-hearted person that made others feel valued and loved. His kindness was quiet, yet constant, and his humor could light up any room. Whether offering advice or a perfectly timed quip, Joe had a gift for enriching the lives of those around him.

Joe is survived by his wife, Karen; his daughters, Pilar (Chris) Fowler and Lauren, who carry forward his wit, wisdom, and boundless love; and his sisters, Barbara (Jeff) Weathers and Rebecca Lesko, with whom he shared a lifetime of laughter and loyalty. He also leaves behind his cherished niece, Kaitlin, and nephews, Tyler and Brandon—each touched by his generosity and gentle spirit. Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen, beloved mother of Pilar.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Joe’s memory by supporting a charity close to your heart, a gesture that reflects the compassion he lived by.

As the alma mater of his beloved Notre Dame proclaims:“And our hearts forever / Love thee, Notre Dame.”May his heart now rest in peace, held in the grace of that eternal love.

We invite you to share your favorite memories of Joe, as your stories and reflections are a cherished part of celebrating his life.
