Eva Velez

Eva Velez, 88, passed away peacefully the morning of April 24, 2024 in Hollywood, California. She was born Eva Suarez Jusino in Lajas, Puerto Rico on May 19, 1935. She moved to New York City in 1955 and was married to Vicente Florenciani (1937-2008) from 1960 to 1977, and was later married to Bernardo Velez, Jr. (1928-2010), the love of her life, from 1988 to the time of his passing. She is being laid beside him at Sunset Memory Gardens in Thonotosassa, Florida.

As homemaker, she was a devoted daughter, wife and mother to her family. She was a dear friend to many who called her “Evita.” She particularly loved women’s fashion, dressing her friends, and she fancied dancing at social events with her friends at the Arcadia Center. Living in New York and New Jersey until her children were grown, she later designed her dream home in Puerto Rico with her second husband before settling into Tampa, Florida from 1994 to 2013. She spent her remaining years in Hollywood, California. As mother of actor-singer Adrian Christian, Eva was very active in the community, accompanying her son on tour and participating in a mission project to restore homes in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria in 2019.

Eva is preceded in death by her mother, Mariana Jusino, her father, Euripides Suarez, and her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her four children from her first marriage: her son Johnson Florenciani; her daughter Ileana Moro and spouse with grandchildren Manuel and Jason; her daughter Marisol Fowler with grandchildren Delilah, Darius, Genevieve and Joshua; and her son Adrian Christian and his partner Peter. She is also survived by five stepchildren and by her seven great-grandchildren: Madesio, Mateo, Angel, Maximus, Imanuel, Azizah and Silas.
