Charles Edward
Cagle Jr.
December 31, 1954 – March 30, 2026
In Loving Memory of Charles Edward Cagle Jr.
Charles Edward Cagle Jr., affectionately known as Chuck, was born on December 31, 1954, in Ferndale, Michigan, and passed away on March 30, 2026. He lived a life defined by service, dedication, and deep love for his family. He was the son of Charles Cagle Sr. and Jeanette (Savoy) Cagle and grew up alongside his five sisters: Denise Brown, Patricia Wright (Paul), Maureen Loehr (late husband Mark), Deborah Hillman (Richard), and Catherine Cagle (Nina), and his brother, Kevin Cagle.
He attended Lamphere High School before answering the call to serve his country in 1972. Upon joining the United States Army, he earned his GED and began what would become a long and honorable military career. Rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7), Charles served with distinction for over 20 years, specializing in food service and later as a dining facility manager. His service took him across the world, including seven years in Germany, one year in Korea, and time in Okinawa, Japan.
Throughout his military career, Charles was recognized for his dedication and excellence. His awards and decorations included the Army Commendation Medal with multiple oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with additional awards, the Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon. These awards reflected his commitment, leadership, and the respect he earned from those who served alongside him.
Charles retired from the Army in 1992 with an honorable discharge, having built a career marked by leadership, discipline, and unwavering commitment. Following his military service, he continued serving his community through his work with the Colorado Department of Corrections from 1993 to 2000, after which he enjoyed a well-earned retirement.
His life took a challenging turn when he battled throat cancer, a fight that resulted in the loss of his larynx and led to his retirement from the Colorado Department of Corrections. Through it all, he faced his circumstances with courage and determination, overcoming the disease that tried to take his life.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Cagle Sr. and Jeanette (Savoy) Cagle, his son, Shawn Edward Cagle I, and his granddaughter, Dawn Marie Nilson.
Beyond his service, Charles was a devoted father to his children, Meredith, Shawn, and Dale, and a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, and great grandchildren who brought him immense joy.
He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, where he found peace and fulfillment in nature. Whether it was early mornings in the quiet of the woods or time spent by the water, these moments brought him happiness and a sense of calm. He also had a lifelong passion for sports, always enjoying a good game. Go Lions! These passions were more than hobbies; they were a reflection of his appreciation for life and the simple joys that meant the most to him.
Charles will be remembered for his character, his service, and his unwavering dedication to his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the family he loved and who loved him so deeply.
