Betty Ann McGeehan, an avid sports woman, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, in Carlsbad, California, at the age of 90. Born Betty Ann Hickey on August 17, 1935, in New Britain, Connecticut, she was a beacon of kindness and dedication throughout her life.
A proud graduate of Vassar College, Betty Ann majored in French and was honored with an award to study in France. Her academic journey continued at the Sorbonne and the University of Paris, where she further immersed herself in the language and culture she loved. She later earned a master's degree from Middlebury College, which laid the foundation for her fulfilling career as a teacher.
Betty Ann devoted her professional life to education, teaching French and English as a Second Language in schools in the Washington, DC area and Connecticut. After relocating to California, she continued to share her passion for language by tutoring individuals striving to learn English, impacting countless lives along the way.
Known for her outgoing and friendly personality, Betty Ann left a mark on everyone she met. She enjoyed engaging in various hobbies and interests, including golf, bridge, and reading. Daily swims and walks kept her active and vibrant, reflecting her love for life and the outdoors. Betty Ann also loved visiting museums all over the world.
Betty Ann's warmth and kindness will be remembered by her surviving family and friends. She is survived by Ellen Jane & Roger Lambert, Neal & Marilynn McGeehan, Jim McGeehan, Jane & Paul Conley, John Cawley & Christine Marshall, John Todd McGeehan, John Francis & Nelvie McGeehan, Bruce & Nancy Hickey, Brad Hickey, Stephen Hickey, Lee McWilliams, Chris Berkeley, JoAnne Haskett, Tere Wilson, Eileen & Scott Griffiths, and Liz Gilmore, who all held her dear in their hearts.
Betty Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel P. McGeehan, who was a pivotal presence in her life. They were devout Catholics and lived a live filled with faith and spirituality. They were married over 50 years and together they shared a happy life traveling, touring, golfing and dining.
In her final moments, Betty Ann was surrounded by family and friends, receiving compassionate care from the staff at both The Gardens of Carlsbad and Hospice of the North Coast. Her legacy as a devoted educator, loving friend, and vibrant community member will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am, Monday, October 27, 2025 at St Elizabeth Seton Church, 6628 Santa Isabel St, Carlsbad, CA 92009.
